Il vostro singolo "Shot In The Dark" sembra un nuovo inizio per la vostra carriera. Cosa lo rende così speciale tanto da essere scelto come colonna sonora per il vostro ritorno sulle scene?

Abbiamo vissuto molte esperienze negli ultimi 6 anni circa. Abbiamo attraversato alcuni momenti bui. Ed eccoci alla fine del tunnel, siamo felici di come stiamo procedendo. "Shot in the Dark" è stato il primo brano che abbiamo scritto che ci ha fatto capire che valesse la pena tornare. È una composizione fantastica e merita di essere ascoltata, ha un cuore, un bel significato ed un buon riff. Sembrava adatta ad essere la prima canzone con cui tornare dopo molto tempo.

Sempre parlando del singolo sopra menzionato, suona come una canzone piena di speranza. Come e quando l'avete scritto? Potreste dirci di più sull'ispirazione che c'è dietro?

È difficle sentire una canzone, di questi tempi, il cui testo parli effettivamente di te stesso. E non intendo quelle sulle delusioni ricevute dalla tua ragazza, tutti hanno avuto il cuore spezzato o lo avranno prima o poi. Intendo una connessione che ti fa sentire sollevato e ricaricato, che ti dia la sensazione di poter fare ciò che vuoi. Ho scritto il riff e il coro nel capanno nel mio giardino dopo aver avuto una vera giornata di merda. I versi arrivarono quando io, Dirk e Donny andammo a Clacton on Sea per una session di composizione. Era mezzanotte, sulla spiaggia con le onde che si infrangevano sulla riva, stavamo facendo risuonare il riff attraverso alcuni altoparlanti e Donny cantava la frase "Immagina te stesso sdraiato, disteso". Poi siamo andati avanti da lì. La lirica riguarda principalmente il denaro per come vanno le cose ai giorni nostri. Rilassati e continua a fare quello che vuoi fare nella vita. Non autocommiserarti per te stesso, non incolpare gli altri. Sii positivo e sogna in grande.

Il vostro quarto album "Super Sounds Of K-Town" è un traguardo molto importante per voi, dato che arriva 10 anni dopo che siete apparsi sulle scene. Questa volta avete deciso di lavorare con Alan McGee e con Creation Management, puntando a un successo più ampio. Come funzionano le cose adesso, così diverse dal passato?

La differenza principale è che ora siamo sobri... il più delle volte. Ci siamo persi tanto prima fra una festa e l'altra. Non fraintendermi, è stato maledettamente geniale, non rimpiango nulla perché il passato è ciò che ti modella. Ma saremmo dei pazzi a non guardare indietro, vedere dove ci siamo fottuti l'ultima volta e a non voler evitare di commettere di nuovo quegli stessi errori.

"Super Sounds Of K-Town" è sicuramente un titolo curioso. Cosa sono questi "super suoni"? E cos'è "K-Town"?

K-Town è Korea Town di Los Angeles, dove abbiamo registrato l'album. E I "super sounds" è ciò di cui esso è composto (ammicca, ndr.).

Cosa ne pensate della reazione del pubblico durante i vostri ultimi concerti a Londra e Manchester?

Entrambe le volte è stata molto positiva. È cambiato molto rispetto a dieci anni fa, quindi chiunque si aspetti di vedere un pugno alzato o bottiglie lanciate rimarrà deluso. Se qualcuno era lì per guardare un gruppo rock di alto livello, è rimasto contento. L'avanguardia è ancora lì, ma ancora più importante sono le canzoni proposte stavolta.

Come pensate che la vostra musica sia cambiata e si sia evoluta dai vostri inizi fino ad oggi?

All'inizio tutto ciò che ascoltavamo erano i Pistols o i Ramones. Se il ritmo non era sopra i 145bmp non ci interessava. Abbiamo suonato musica per la quale la gente impazzirebbe agli spettacoli. Ma diventa noioso scrivere e suonare in quel modo per tutto il tempo. Cresci, sei influenzato da altre cose e questo si riflette nella musica. Abbiamo abbassato il ritmo di alcune tracce e la tracklist, perciò anche l'album ne è uscito migliorato.

Guardando indietro alla vostra carriera, c'è qualcosa che cambiereste? Avete qualche rimpianto? Come vi sentite ora che i Tower Of London hanno 10 anni?

Non cambierei nulla, tranne qualche capriccioso taglio di capelli... Considerando che i miei non cambiano mai!

Tornando al presente: avete pubblicato un altro singolo, "Superbowl", come regalo per i fan, il giorno di capodanno ... quali sono le vostre aspettative per il 2018? E quali le vostre buone intenzioni?

Vogliamo pubblicare il nostro album e fare un sacco di show, e continuare a migliorare il nostro modo di comporre. Si parla di un nuovo show televisivo e anche di un cartone animato basato su di noi. Quindi abbiamo in programma un sacco di cose buone da fare nel 2018.

Avete in programma altri spettacoli per promuovere il nuovo album, forse anche in Italia?

Sì, è ciò che amiamo fare e che sappiamo fare meglio. Quindi faremo di sicuro molti concerti. Speriamo in alcuni festival italiani in estate.

Your single "Shot In The Dark" seems like a new beginning for your career. What make it so special to be chosen as soundtrack to your return on the scenes?

We've been through a lot over the last 6 years or so. We've come through some dark times. And here we are at the end of the tunnel feeling good about how we're going. Shot in the Dark was the first tune we wrote that made us all feel like it was worth coming back for. Its a great song and it deserves to be heard, its got heart, meaning and a pretty good riff. It felt right for it to be the first song back in a long while.

Still talking about your the above mentioned single, it sounds and feels like a song full of hope. How and when did you write it? Would you please tell us more about the inspiration behind it?

Not often you hear a song these days were you can really connect with the lyric. And I don't mean about being dumbed by your girlfriend, every ones felt heart break or is gonna at some point. I mean connecting in a way that makes you feel uplifted and empowered, that you can do what you wanna do. I wrote the riff and chorus in the shed in my garden after I had had a real shit day. The verses came when myself, Dirk and Donny went to Clacton on Sea for a song writing session. It was midnight and we were on the beach with the waves crashing on the shore, we were blasting out the riff through some speakers and Donny sang the line "Imagine yourself laid out laid up". Then it went from there. The lyric is pretty on the money for how  attitudes are these days. Pick yourself up and get on with doing what you wanna do in life. Don't feel sorry for yourself or blame others. Be positive and dream big.

Your fourth album "Super Sounds Of K-Town" is a very important release for you, as it comes after 10 years you have appeared on the scenes. This time you decided to work with Alan McGee and Creation Management aiming to a broader success. How was working under these new circumstances different from the past?

The main difference is that we're sober now... most the time. We missed out on a lot the first time around from partying to hard. Dont get me wrong, it was bloody brilliant, I don't regret anything because the past is what shapes you. But we'd be fools to not look back and see where we fucked it up for ourselves last time, and try not to make those same mistakes again.

"Super Sounds Of K-Town" is for sure a curious title. What are those super sounds? And what's that K-Town?

So, K-Town is Korea Town in Los Angeles where we recorded the album. And Super Sounds is what it consists of!

What do you think about the audience's reaction during your latest gigs in London and Manchester?

Both really positive. A lot has changed from ten years ago, so anyone expecting to see a punch up or bottles being thrown would have been disappointed. Anyone who was there to watch a top rock band on form would have been pleased. The edge is still there but more importantly the songs are there too.

How do you think your music has changed and evolved from your beginnings until today?

At the beginning all we would listen to was the Pistols or Ramones. If it wasn't over 145bmp we weren't really interested. We played music that people would go crazy for at shows. But it gets boring writing and playing that way all the time. You grow up, are influenced by other things, and it reflects in the music. We've dropped the tempo down for a few tracks and the set list and album is better for it.

Looking back at your career, is there anything you would change? Do you have any regrets? How do you feel now that Tower Of London are 10 year old?

Wouldn't change a thing, except a few dodgy hair cuts. Saying that mines not change!

Going back to the present times: you released another single "Superbowl" to the benefit of your fans new years's eve party... what are your expectations for 2018? And what are your good intentions?

We wanna play a lot of shows, and keep bettering ourselves with the writing. There are talks of a new TV show, and also a Towers cartoon. So a lot of good stuff to get into for 2018.

Are you going to play other shows to promote the new album, perhaps in Italy as well?

Yes, it's what we love doing and are best at. So will definitely be playing a lot of shows. Hopefully a few Italian festivals in the summer.
