Due DVD, 90 canzoni, oltre 400 minuti di musica e immagini in formato Blu-Ray. Non si può certo dire che alla Nuclear Blast facciano le cose al risparmio, neppure in tempi di crisi. Non sarà al livello delle grandi multinazionali discografiche, ma in quanto a competenza, qualità e attitudine al marketing la Nuclear Blast non è seconda a nessuno. "Monsters Of Metal" si conferma come autentico punto di riferimento in un mercato, quello delle raccolte di videoclips, che ricopre importanza strategica anche per un’etichetta settoriale come questa.

L’ottavo capitolo della saga è ancora una volta una succulenta antologia di video estratti dal recente catalogo della casa di Donzdorf, arricchite per l’occasione da alcuni video gentilmente concessi dalla concorrente Roadrunner Records. La compilation è divisa in due parti, una più melodica e concentrata sul metal classico, l’altra moderna ed estrema. Nella prima si possono vedere alcuni video delle bands più note dell’etichetta tedesca, a partire dai best sellers Nightwish di “Storytime”, vera punta di diamante del catalogo, passando per Hammerfall, Rhapsody Of Fire, Blind Guardian, Pain, Amorphis, Therion, Edguy e tantissimi altri, davvero superfluo elencarli tutti. Inutile dire che c’è veramente da rifarsi le orecchie e gli occhi per la qualità del materiale proposto e la grande varietà finirà per accontentare un po’ tutti i palati. Sul secondo disco fa bella mostra di sé un altro pilastro commerciale della Nuclear ovvero i norvegesi Dimmu Borgir, in buona compagnia con Immortal, Arch Enemy, Death Angel, Overkill, Tryptikon e via discorrendo. Non mancano le consuete “gemme” come la performance dei Grave Digger a Wacken 2010, passata alla storia per la riproposizione intergrale del masterpiece “Tunes Of War”. L’estratto vede “Rebellion” in duetto con Hansi Kursch dei Blind Guardian e un coro di cornamuse scozzesi per un impatto assolutamente mozzafiato.

Per la palma dei video migliori c’è solo l’imbarazzo della scelta, impossibile restare indifferenti al ritorno degli Immortal con la glaciale “All Shall Fall” così come alla visionaria “The Devil’s Orchard” degli Opeth, ma data la vastità dell’opera, c’è da giurare che nessun metal kid degno di questo appellativo resterà deluso.
